Diabetes Airline Pilot
Wednesday, March 10th, 20101st Class Aviation Medical?
I wondered if it was possible for people with diabetes or disease coronary artery to obtain a 1st class medical. (so they can fly for an airline), I know there are exceptions and so to allow people to steal, but it's something like a previous heart attack or any of the above too for a 1st class, and end up being a pilot? Thank you!
It is very difficult, but theoretically possible. In the case of diabetes, if diabetes is treated by diet and exercise or oral hypoglycemic agents, there is a chance for a medical examination. The FAA does not have a problem normally first-class medical for diabetes mellitus, however. In the case of cardiovascular diseases, the situation is similar. A history of heart attack is very difficult to overcome. Both conditions require many documents and paperwork, and the FAA made the final decision. After that, there is the obstacle additional finding a company that you will engage in these conditions, even if you have a medical. You are still a potential insurance risk responsibility, so it may be difficult to find a job. For private pilots, things are much easier, but you will still need cover a lot of documentation and Red Tape.
